Imagine shedding the fear of God's punishment.

Imagine having a safe place to process your religious experience.

Imagine feeling powerful in your own human experience again.

How will this help me?

Religious trauma leaves you worried to ask questions or challenge the leaders of your religious community. But your questions and challenges matter. We help you find a community of those with similar experiences to process your experiences with a trauma-informed therapist.

How will your life change?

You deserve a life without the fear of a punishing God. You deserve heartfelt support in a community that holds your questions without kicking you out. You deserve a safe space to challenge purity culture, racism, colonialism, and sexual repression with people that get it.

And before you know it...

You've lost the sense of anxiety, guilt and shame. You've regained a sense of safety in relationships. You're less preoccupied with sin and God's punishment. And you've allowed yourself to have a spiritual experience without the dogmatic environment.

I want to tell you a story.

I used to think that life was better when I followed all of the rules I was taught in the church. I married the man I was supposed to marry, reported my internal emotional life to an accountability partner to make sure I wasn't "sinning" and used scripture to beat myself up.

But I was miserable. I was in a marriage full of religious abuse and I couldn't find my way out because the church supported him.

I felt alone, gross, sinful, and wrong.

I believed I was bad at my very core.

The theology I was taught made me feel terrible about myself. I believed I was barely tolerated by God and would easily be rejected, abandoned or shamed if I was my true self.

I was lost, anxious, and filled with shame. I wanted to be loved but believed it was out of reach for me if I didn't follow all of the rules the church gave me.

As Seen On...

What would life be like for you if you no longer felt the shame of your religious background?

HOW IT WORKS

Trauma Therapist Leads the Way

We have a trained trauma-informed therapist lead the group in a supportive journey toward healing. We address the most common topics that come up in religious trauma, including power dynamics in churches/religious organizations/cults, racism, colonialism, theology of sin, sexual repression, predestination, and how to cope with deconstruction.

We take on topics like:

• Growing up in a racist church

• Learning how colonialism was embedded in the message from the pulpit.

• Challenging purity culture and reclaiming human sexuality

• Coping with the theology of sin and its impact on our fear of a higher power.

Frequently Asked Questions

I don't live in California. Can I still participate?

Absolutely. We've created a virtual space for you to meet each week with the group. This means that it's open to anyone living in the United States and Canada.

I'm nervous about talking about my trauma.

That is completely normal after trauma. Religious trauma adds an extra sting that making us feel like we should be ashamed of our experiences. You are going to meet others that feel similarly and that might help you feel supported.

Why is there only 10 participants?

It's important that the group feels manageable to all the participants. When we add more people, there's the potential of overwhelming each other. We aim for supportive and productive experiences.

Will there be another group at another time?

We plan on offering other groups in the future, but we are unsure when. If this is something that feels time-sensitive for your own development and health, now is the time to apply.

What's the difference between this group and individual therapy?

We support individual therapy for anyone that has had a trauma experience. This is a supplemental support group that focuses specifically on religious trauma, which many trauma therapists do not specifically focus on.

What if I can't afford this ?

We offer payment plans for those that are financially restricted. Please feel free to apply for a spot in this support group and we can work through meaningful options for you at the time of the consultation.

Regaining your mental health after religious trauma is imperative. You deserve to understand what happened to you by the spiritual leaders in your life. Join our support group today.
